Dreaming of a Dry Christmas

Date: 17/12/20

With the introduction of special Covid-19 rules for the Christmas period, many of us will be able to see, and even stay with, our family and friends. From 23rd to 27th December, up to three households can meet up indoors and even stay overnight.

For most people, this is great news, but for many incontinence sufferers, it can bring a sense of dread. Staying overnight in someone else’s home means sleeping in a strange bed, without your usual protection. Inevitably this leads to fear of accidents and leakages that will damage the bed and cause embarrassment. Fortunately, IncoDirect are here to help you to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Dependable protection
Our range of top quality bed protectors and incontinence sheets will give you the confidence to stay overnight with your family and friends, safe in the knowledge that their furniture, and your dignity, will both be protected. These discreet products provide a back-up to your normal pads and pants, ensuring that in the unlikely event of a leak, the bed will be completely protected.

You can also purchase overnight pads and pants that have extra absorbency and are designed to last longer before you need to change. Chances are you already use these at home, but you can always upgrade your choice for added protection and confidence when staying away from home.

Two levels of protection
There are two main ways to protect a bed while your sleep: incontinence sheets and bed pads. Incontinence sheets are a thin, waterproof membrane that are fitted across the entire mattress to provide a barrier for minor leaks. Bed pads provide much more protection, with an ultra-absorbent fluff core, waterproof backing and a soft top layer for comfort.

Bed pads are available in six sizes and two absorbency levels, with some featuring the very latest ‘secure zone’ technology in the top sheet to lock away leaks. For added peace of mind, bed pads can also be purchased with wings, which allow them to be tucked in at either side to hold them in place throughout the night.

Top tips when staying away
If you are concerned about staying with friends and family, there are a number of steps you can take to reduce the risk of embarrassing accidents. Firstly, try to reduce your fluid intake, especially later in the evening. With Christmas celebrations, you will probably be drinking alcohol, but again if you can limit your intake, it will help.

It is important to make sure that you know the route to the bathroom and have a torch or phone-light to help find your way. When you wake up in an unfamiliar house, needing the toilet urgently, you’ll be glad you took the time to check this out. It can also help to set an alarm to raise you for a toilet visit in the night to reduce the volume of urine in your bladder and cut the risk of leaks.

With a little planning and the right incontinence sheets and other products, there is no reason you should be worried about staying away from home this Christmas. If you have any concerns, please feel free to talk to our friendly team, who will be happy to help you choose the right products to put your mind at rest.

Meanwhile, may we wish you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the team here at IncoDirect.
